There is so much about her smile and her passions to talk about when you say Heather Rose Kornick. She was an amazing young woman who has left a legacy that will live on and benefit many. Heather was 21 and finishing her junior year of college when she was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Cancer (ACC) stage IV on May 12, 2008. She left us on April 3, 2013. In those four years and 11 months, Heather set many goals and she and her family reached most of them. She loved to travel and took a number of trips including New Orleans with her best friend, Disney World, and Las Vegas 3 times. Heather loved going to camp as a child and as a staff member. She wanted to give other children that same opportunity to explore their Jewish identity. Because of her generosity, many other campers are now able to attend URJ Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) in Oconomowoc WI.

She also loved where she attended college at Indiana University, in Bloomington IN. There, Heather has provided for a sister to receive scholarship funds as a member of Beta Alpha Chapter for Alpha Delta Pi. While in college, Heather and her sorority ADPi, participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. She did this because she wanted to make a meaningful difference in the fight against cancer. It was a very personal experience of being part of a larger community and to have a means to fight back against cancer. She relayed for the next 5 years and in her last year of 2013, her team Chemosaurus Rex raised over 36K for the American Cancer Society.

Meanwhile at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, Heather loved her medical team who quarterbacked her care. Dr. Gary Hammer, Dr. Frank Worden and her PA, Beth, were always accessible by email, and in person, and were very supportive of her needs. However, near the end of her battle with ACC, her medical team had to tell her that there were no more options to fight. There were no specific clinical trials or additional treatments available.

That gave her a new found passion. She wanted to make sure that NO ONE EVER had to be told "they were out of options in the fight against ACC or any other cancers". Now Heather's vision and legacy is the establishment of her endowment fund and its mission to raise money for ACC research and clinical trials to give other patients more options and someday a cure. Won't you please take a moment and give to the Heather Rose Kornick Research fund where the proceeds go to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center ACC Research Team.

Thank you.
