A named professorship is the highest honor a department or center can bestow upon a faculty member. Professorships are made possible by the generosity of donors, which allows them to contribute to the enrichment and vitality of the academic and scientific environment.
Professorships are endowed funds that provide support in perpetuity. Interest from the endowment created by the donor may be used to support a faculty member’s scholarly and research needs. These include advancing innovation and research, providing time to pursue novel or early areas of inquiry, and more opportunities to develop younger colleagues and students.
