In-person and virtual event on Sept. 23 to feature former NFL players Devon Still and Dhani Jones
ANN ARBOR, Michigan — Pink ribbons for breast cancer, purple for pancreatic cancer, light blue for prostate and dark blue for colon. Each cancer type has its color. On Sept. 23, 2022, the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center will celebrate them all.
The second annual Colorful event is an evening of celebration and support of cancer research at the Rogel Cancer Center, the No. 1 ranked cancer program in Michigan. The evening will include both in-person and virtual options.
“Cancer survivors and advocates represent the cancers they’re most passionate about through colorful ribbons. Our Colorful event represents this spectrum of ribbons and highlights our commitment to cancers of all types and to every cancer patient we see. We want to give hope to all patients diagnosed with cancer,” says Eric Fearon, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Rogel Cancer Center.
The center’s mission is to transform the lives of cancer patients and their families by improving outcomes through research, innovation and transdisciplinary collaboration.
Colorful will be a talk-show-style event hosted by NFL alums Dhani Jones with special guest Devon Still, and will include comments from Rogel researchers and patients.
Jones is a former University of Michigan linebacker who played with the New York Giants for 11 years. He is an entrepreneur, author and multimedia broadcaster, as well as an enthusiastic and effective philanthropist, including as the founder of BowTie Cause.
Still was a defensive end at Penn State and played for the Cincinnati Bengals when his daughter, Leah, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Still launched a public campaign to support research and help other families affected by neuroblastoma. Eight years later, Leah is cancer-free.
Tickets for the in-person event are $500, including cocktails and a strolling dinner. A free virtual program is also available. Attendees are encouraged to purchase a Colorful T-shirt or wear the cancer advocacy color that means the most to them.
