Penile Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Evaluation and diagnostic testing for penile cancer

Our multidisciplinary team of urologic specialists is made up of urologic surgeons, medical oncologists, pathologists and radiation oncologist to offer an approach to treatment planning that has a high cure rate. The process begins with a tissue biopsy which can sometimes be performed in an outpatient setting. Additional tests may include an abdominal CT scan, chest x-ray and blood work.

The University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center is provides a comprehensive, team approach to cancer specialty care. Although a patient may not see each member of the team, all of the specialists listed below are involved in reviewing patients’ cases and recommending a treatment plan that is tailored to the each patient.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Testicular Cancer

Evaluation and diagnostic testing

If a mass is found, the evaluation can include a scrotal ultrasound, abdominal CT scan, chest x-ray and blood tests. These, along with an examination by a doctor, are used to determine the sequence and timing of treatment. However, the diagnosis is confirmed when tissue is obtained during surgery and examined by our pathology team.
